Board Readiness Programme Launches in Skopje

28/10/2025

The Women on Boards Adria Board Readiness Programme began in Skopje with a group of women leaders from across the region who are preparing for board and senior leadership roles. From the first session, the programme set a clear tone: practical learning, honest conversation, and a strong sense of mutual support.

“The most powerful part of this group is how they challenge and support each other,” said Nevena Dičić Kostić, Head of Programmes at Women on Boards Adria. “They’re not just gaining skills, but also building relationships and a network they can rely on as they take their next steps.”

The first day focused on leadership as it is experienced in real organisations. Conversations addressed credibility,

Responsibility, and the pressure that comes with decision-making at the senior level. Jovanka Joleska Popovska spoke about leading with authenticity and the importance of consistency in building trust. Maida Zahirović Salom explored how women can position themselves for leadership and communicate their value with confidence. Sanela Pašić led a discussion on leading through uncertainty and the mindset required to guide organisations through change.

“What I love most about this programme is seeing women come into their own,” said Biljana Braithwaite, Chair of Women on Boards Adria. “They arrive with talent and ambition, and leave with more confidence, clarity, and a network they can count on.”

“We talked about the realities of leadership: the pressure, the responsibility, and the mindset it takes to lead with purpose,” said Sanela Pašić, Women on Boards Adria Lead Ambassador for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On the second day, participants moved inside the boardroom. The focus shifted to how boards work in practice, how decisions are made, and what responsible governance looks like beyond formal structures.

“This feels like a real community,” said Đina Popović, Director of Women on Boards Adria. “These women are learning from each other as much as from the programme itself.”

Sessions examined the role of boards in shaping strategy, managing risk, and maintaining transparency. Katarina Đulić shared practical insight into board responsibilities, while Ognen Janeski worked with participants on communication and presence in board and leadership settings. These sessions marked the start of a longer learning journey. Participants will continue the programme through online modules focused on board finance, crisis management, strategy, and resilient leadership.
